Radon Gas Detectors are devices used to measure the levels of radon in a dwelling or structure....generally a home or office. Radon is measured in pci/L, that is pico curies per liter. The EPA has set a safe level of radon to be under 4.0 pCi/L. The truth be know the safest level as really taking all measures to get the radon level as low as possible.
Where should I put my Radon Gas Detector?
Generally most tests are run on the lowest livable area in the home and they can run from 48 hours to as long as a year. Most detectors however can be set on the main level of a home and should be monitored from time to time. Generally there are not huge fluctuations in radon levels in a homes, however homes can test safe once and then test high at a later date. this can be prevented by installing a radon mitigation system.
It is important to remember that the true threat of radon is base on long term exposure. Just as if you smoke for 30 years your rsk for lung cancer will increase. Well if the radon levels in your home are high for an extended period of time you will be at greater risk for lung cancer than someone that might have a radon mitigation system in their home.
